Bayer is taking community education to a new, digital level with the Mosquito control Learning Lab.
The interactive online learning platform was originally developed to address the 2.5 billion people worldwide living in areas at risk of exposure to dengue, starting with children in Singapore. Bayer partnered with the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the South West Community Development Council (CDC) to make the learning module available to all schools in the South West district. The program was such a success that the learning lab is being adapted for other Asian countries, including Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
At the same time, on the other side of the world, Bayer is working with government organizations in Brazil to address the Zika situation--but not only from a product perspective. Brazil had more than 175,000 suspected and reported cases of the Zika virus in 2016, according to a recent epidemiological report published by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The global impact remains an open question with the Brazil Tourism Board estimating between 350,000 and 500,000 visitors for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
